Glorious Etsy & Some Good News!

Ladies, if you are anything like myself, you love Etsy!  I have bought some beautiful items from there.  Such talent - oh, how I wish I could paint roses!  Some of my favorite rose-luscious shoppes are listed here on Etsy.  Breathtaking pretties!  I wish I could buy them all!

Each Spring, I have kept a report for my Northern friends.  Usually when the cypress trees begin to sprout here in South Florida, it means Spring is right around the corner.  So if you are hankering for Spring - don't worry!  It's on its way soon!  Our cypress trees here are exploding with green!

Happy Tuesday!

Some Recent Scores and Excuses!

My Dear Friends!  I apologize for neglecting my little blog.  However, my camera recently broke and I am going to get a new one this weekend.   I have many, many things to share but I have posted just a few little pretties here.

These are some recent finds and I have more to post in the future.  Please kindly remember that the pictures below were taken with my iPhone therefore are not very good.... >.<

I found the sweetest butter dish that I think will add charm to my dining table.  I love my vintage finds; I always daydream about the lady of the house who used them and took as much pride in these things as I do.  I am such a sucker for roses....especially pink roses... *sigh*

When I found these tole trays, I was so excited.  Their gold rims go very well with the gold color of my walls in the living/dining area.  This tray I found in Ohio:

This tole tray is my favorite and was an eBay find (good price, too!).

I fell in love with the lamp below.  It captured my heart.  It was in Ohio and I simply adored the old-fashioned-ness of it.  The heart-shaped pink glass base didn't hurt either!

Notice the sweet chimney at the top even though it is electric?  Here is what it looks like on:

So that is some of my recent finds.  Thank you for sharing them with me!  Here is a preview for next time- hopefully with better photos from a new camera! :)

HAND-WRINGING ANNOUNCEMENT:  I shall be remodeling my kitchen this Spring.  HURRAY!  I'm only painting over the oak cabinets but, for me, it is a frightening prospect.  I have never repainted anything in my life and I'm a bit nervous. I haven't ever tackled such a DIY project before. I'm researching all over the internet and would appreciate any suggestions.  So far, I've been to The Inspired Room and A Gathering Place for painting ideas from those two talented ladies. We moved in about four years ago and I enjoy our newer stainless appliances but my kitchen decor just leaves me 'blah'.  So if you have any ideas for a VERY LIGHT pink walls, white/cream cabinets and accents beadboard - let me know!  I'm going feminine in the kitchen, Ladies!

I'd love to follow you if you are on pinterest.com.  You can find me here .

My Ultimate Antique

Recently, I went on a trip to northern Ohio.  It was breathtakingly beautiful in Winter for this native Floridian.  The snow, cool breeze and old buildings charmed me and made me want to live there.  I think I was born in the wrong place because my Irish blood loves the frigid weather.

I had the opportunity to visit Maumee Antique Mall in Maumee, Ohio.  It was a dream come true.  The Mall offers everything from "flea market" finds to high-end furniture and collectibles.  It was difficult to decide where to begin!  I spent over six HOURS in this mall without sitting down or eating!  I was enraptured!  I bought many gorgeous items that I will be posting soon.

This photo doesn't capture the scope and size of this place!

However, I want to tell you about my ultimate find. :)

I was looking down the aisles using a shopping cart (!) and found my treasure.  It is a 1920's Favorite Brand gas stove.  It was in PRISTINE condition and I fell in love with the piece.

Racing to the front of the store, I asked breathlessly if they shipped to Florida.  Alas!  The mall doesn't ship.  Sadly I consoled myself with other beautiful bargins that I could carry on the plane when I returned home.

Once I was at home, I went back to work after the holiday but still this silly stove remained in my mind.  On a whim, I began to research how much it would cost to move it to Florida.  I knew it was ridiculous to think of driving 22 hours ONE WAY to pick up a stove in Ohio that doesn't even work.  However, I brought the issue to my husband and we talked.

Thus, the dream has evolved and my dear husband and I taking a trip up to Ohio the first week in April to pick up my dream stove!!!!!

Allow me to introduce you to my "Favorite Brand Stove":

This is a photo of one just like it - the one I am purchasing is in even better condition.

Now these old gas stoves sell for $2,000 and up.  Which is why this is such a dream for me - my stove was priced at $200.00.  Yep.  You read that correctly!  $200!  So I have bought it via telephone and will be picking it up in April.

Only those of us who love antiques and old-fashioned things can understand the excitement and joy I'm feeling right now!

Isn't it beautiful? I plan on making the entire wall where it will grace my dining area into a 1920's vignette complete with pictures, old-fashioned labeled cans and milk bottles!  I don't plan on actually using the stove but maybe one day, I can refurbish the stove, re-do my farmhouse kitchen and cook dinner on it.

It entrances me to think that perhaps the woman who originally had this stove in the 1920's was as excited to have it as I am!  What kind of homemaker was she?  How many children did she have?  Or was she a single woman?  That is the true thrill of antiques for me.... 'Who owned it before me and what were they like?'  Imagine - someone else may own it 100 years from now to think the same of me!

Antiques are the passing baton of something that was in our lives and now is in a stranger's life.  It is a thread of humanity.

Please leave a comment and introduce yourselves!  Thanks for visiting and stop by again soon!

Lyrics from a Precious 1920's Song

Why bob your hair, girls?

by: Blind Alfred Reed in 1927

Why do you bob your hair, girls?

You're doing mighty wrong.

God gave it for a glory

And you should wear it long!

You spoil your lovely hair, girls,

To keep yourself in style;

Before you bob your hair, girls,

Just stop and think a while.

Why do you bob your hair, girls?

It is an awful shame

To rob the head God gave you

And bear the flapper's name.

You're taking off your covering,

It is an awful sin;

Don't never bob your hair, girls,

Short hair belongs to men.

Why do you bob your hair, girls?

It does not look so nice;

It's just to be in fashion,

lt's not the Lord's advice.

And every time you bob it

You're breaking God's command

You cannot bob your hair, girls

And reach the Glory land.

Why do you bob your hair, girls?

It's not the thing to do;

Just wear it, always wear it,

And to your Lord be true.

And when before the judgment

You meet your Lord up there,

He'll say, "Well done! For one thing,

You never bobbed your hair!"

Welcome to Romantic Victorian & Vintage Treasures!

Welcome!  I am so glad you're here.

I have always felt - since I was a little girl - that I was born in the wrong time.  Any time from 1900 - 1945 would have been just fine with me!  LOL!  Alas - here I am.  An old-fashioned woman in a modern world!

I have fashioned my home after the "good old days". I'm a hopeless romantic. I have everything from Victorian up to the 1940's in my home.  I love antiquing and junking so I thought I'd start a blog with some of my finds.

This blog is to share some of my favorite Victorian and vintage romantic finds - antique and otherwise. I adore the past...from the late Victorian era to the 1950's. Probably a little bit from all those eras will appear here from time to time. Thank you for visiting!
